SHELBY — Jeremy Miller is no stranger to Shelby City Schools.

With nearly three decades of classroom and coaching experience within the district, he was announced Monday night as the new assistant principal of Shelby Middle School during the district’s board of education meeting.

He most recently served as a seventh-grade science and social studies teacher.

Miller is set to take over for Justin Schroeder, who was recently picked as Shelby’s new principal for grades 3 to 5.

“I am very excited to have Jeremy (Miller) join our administrative team,” said Shelby Supt. Michael Browning. “He brings a great understanding of the district and will do an excellent job in the assistant principal position.”

As a coach, Miller’s leadership has extended beyond the classroom. He’s coached years of middle school football and basketball, as well as varsity baseball at Shelby High School.

A press release from the district said his colleagues describe him as a “dedicated educator with a student-first mindset and a strong understanding of the district’s values.”

Leadership role has always been goal for Miller

In his new role, Miller will support day-to-day operations, student services and teacher
development. He’ll also be tasked with helping to foster a positive school climate.

“Having the opportunity to lead and work with staff and students has always been a goal of mine,” Miller said. “I am excited and looking forward to helping staff and students reach their goals this upcoming school year.”

He begins his new role this summer, along with Schroeder and longtime Shelby educator Tim Rodenbaugh, who was recently picked as the next assistant principal of Shelby High School.

Miller’s transition into the assistant principal role comes at a time of continued momentum at Shelby Middle School, the district’s release said.

“The school has consistently emphasized high academic standards, innovative teaching, and strong community connections. District leaders believe Miller is well-positioned to help build on that progress,” the release said.
