MANSFIELD — When Reneta Music talks about strength, she’s not just talking about what your body can do — she’s talking about the mindset that comes with it.
In this episode of Better Together, Reneta joins hosts Brittany Schock and Maddie Penwell for a conversation about how women can reclaim their strength in all its forms: physical, emotional, mental, and relational.
Reneta Music is an 8th-degree black and the founder and executive director of the Music Academy of Karate & Empowerment (MAKE), one of four female-owned non-profit karate academies in Ohio. She is also a StrongFirst Team Leader Elite and a personal trainer and the founder of 4th Street Fitness, a subsidiary of MAKE.
Reneta shares how karate has helped her and her students build confidence, community, and personal safety. We talk about boundaries, trauma recovery, and why prevention is more powerful than reaction.
The episode also touches on Reneta’s experience growing up in a home affected by domestic violence — and how that shaped her commitment to giving women tools for empowerment.
“You don’t have to fight to be powerful,” she says. “But you do have to believe in your worth.”
The public is invited to participate in two upcoming events hosted by Reneta, designed to foster a sense of community and self-empowerment for participants.
The Annual Karate Summer Camp will take place on July 26th from 1 to 5 p.m. at 3814 Bowman Street Road, Shelby. This event is open to all ages and skill levels, offering participants an introduction to martial arts and an opportunity to build confidence, strength, and discipline.
Additionally, Reneta will lead a free Empowerment Life Protection seminar at the MAKE dojo from Aug. 19 through Sept. 11. The seminar will be held every Tuesday and Friday at 6 p.m. and is designed to teach self-defense techniques, increase awareness, and promote emotional well-being. The seminar is made possible by a grant from the Women’s Fund at the Richland County Foundation.
Better Together is available on all major platforms. New episodes drop every Thursday.
