MANSFIELD — The annual Miss Ohio Pageant kicked off at the Renaissance Theatre on Wednesday evening.

Eighteen contestants took the stage with hopes of becoming the next Miss Ohio Teen. Each contestant displayed fitness, showcased a 90-second talent, engaged in a 30-second interview, and finally presented their gowns.

All was going well until Contestant #18, Chloe Maybin, stepped onto the stage to perform her dance piece. In the middle of the performance, the entire theatre went dark due to a passing storm over north central Ohio.

After a brief hiatus and evacuation of the main theatre, the pageant resumed as normal.

Maybin took the stage once more to fully complete her dance routine, this time to thunderous applause from the audience.

The night carried on with no other issues and the moment everyone was waiting for finally arrived. The results were in and it was time to crown the new Miss Ohio’s Teen. Several awards were given, including four runner-ups.

Ultimately, Miss South Central’s Allison Payton was voted Miss Ohio’s Teen.

Payton, an upcoming senior at Zane Trace High School said this is just her second year in the world of pageants.

“My friend from dance got me started into pageants.” Payton said. “Last year I finished first runner up for Miss Chillicothe and so I competed again this year.

“Now I’m going to compete for Miss America’s Teen!”

Miss Maple City’s Aly Kramer finished as this year’s runner-up.
