Jonah Keaton, 86, of Shelby, passed away at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Jonah was born on September 10, 1938, to the late parents of Herbert and Vivian (Seita) Keeton, in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Jonah married his wife, Bonnie (Mitchell) Keaton, on November 1, 1991. They spent 33 wonderful years together.
A member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Galion, Jonah found joy in nurturing his faith and sharing his love for the outdoors with those around him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending countless days enjoying the serenity of nature. Jonah loved mushroom hunting and was always eager to pass down his knowledge to his family. His adventurous spirit led him to explore cliff rappelling and embark on whitewater rafting excursions, creating lasting memories with friends and family.
Jonah’s love for the outdoors didn't stop there; he was also a passionate gardener, nurturing plants and flowers that brought beauty to his home. A part of the outdoors he looked forward to was doing tree work for family and friends. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, often leading his family on camping trips that fostered bonds and sparked joy. Jonah was a remarkable storyteller with a passion for life's adventures. He found joy in sharing tales from his youth and experiences with family and friends. An avid motorcyclist, Jonah embraced the freedom of the open road, creating memories that he cherished dearly.
Left to cherish Jonah's memories are his wife, Bonnie, children: James (Patti), Vivian, Nancy, Gary (Sandra), Evie (Kevin), stepchildren: Chuck, Bryan, siblings: Richard, Loren, Shirley, Lloyd, Floyd, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Along with Jonah’s parents, he is preceded in death by children: Rex, stepchildren: Tonya, Ray, and siblings: Nancy, Linda, and Tony.
Friends may call on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Gompf Funeral Service-Galion Chapel, 303 Portland Way North, Galion, starting at 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Service will follow at 12:00 pm with Pastor Rodney Noblet officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Lucas.
