ONTARIO — Thursday marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Ontario Key Club, with the support of the Kiwanis Club, raised 512 flags in front of the Area Agency on Aging to commemorate the quarter century that has passed since that fateful day.
Last year the club planted 175 flags. Teachers said there’s no significance to those specific numbers, but the larger numbers this year represent a greater interest from sponsors.
On Sept. 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda hijackers took over four commercial planes and attacked the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
A total of 2,977 people died in the event, not including the 19 hijackers.
