GALION — The Galion Community Band will begin rehearsals for the summer concert this Sunday, June 8 at the Galion High School bandroom at 2 p.m.
The Band is open to all area musicians. The first concert of the year will be on July 5 at 6 p.m. at the pavilion of the First United Church of Christ at 248 Harding Way West near Uptowne Galion.
In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the sanctuary of the church. A second concert of the summer will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. at the same venue.
Further rehearsals for the band will be on June 15, June 22, June 29, July13, July 20 and July 27.
All rehearsals will be at the Galion High School bandroom and will begin at 2 p.m.
The July 5 concert will celebrate our nation’s birthday with a lineup of patriotic marches, music that was made famous during the Civil War, World War I and World War II. All veterans are invited to attend this concert to be recognized for their service.
The August concert will be a traditional band concert featuring marches, popular songs, and with luck a few instrumental soloists.
These concerts are free, with a free will donation requested. For the concerts bring your lawn chairs and be prepared to be entertained by this talented band.
“We are looking for a few more corporate sponsors to help with the costs of the band,” said longtime director Brian Treisch.
Last year’s band had community members and high school students from Galion, Crestline, Northmor, Shelby, Col. Crawford and Clear Fork.
“We expect to see a great turnout from the area schools and the community’ said director Brian Treisch. “I would like to see some students from Ontario and Lexington come this year as well.”
The Galion Community Band began in 1976 and has played almost every summer since. At this time support for the band has come from the Galion Community Foundation, Metronome Music, Bill and Marilyn Stepro, and The Galion Elks.
