COLUMBUS — In honor of the life and service of Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson, Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Hamilton County, the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower Sunday, and will remain until sunset on the day of his funeral.
All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
Henderson died on Friday in an alleged vehicular homicide near the University of Cincinnati campus.
Henderson served for 33 years with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, beginning in 1991. His roles with the sheriff’s office included time spent as an academy instructor, dive team member, SWAT team member, FBI task force member and bomb unit member.
Henderson was working a special detail to help assist with traffic around UC’s campus as graduation ceremonies were underway there Friday. He was struck by a car at approximately 1 p.m. He was taken to the nearby UC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
