SHELBY — A billboard in downtown Shelby reads, “Hey Shelby! The ultimate Mickey’s and Dunkin’ experience is almost here.”
The wait is nearly over.
Jennifer Wagner, director of member services for the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development, recently announced the long-awaited grand opening of a new Mickey’s and Dunkin’ Donuts combo is set for Monday at 10:30 a.m.
Wagner said the store, located at 191 State Route 39, boasts “a stunning glass-front design, abundant natural light and a spacious, welcoming interior.”
“Guests can enjoy a wide variety of food options, including Mickey’s Chicken & Deli, fully stocked snack aisles, refreshing cooler selections and a full-service Dunkin’ Donuts,” she said through email.
Efforts leading to Monday’s grand opening have been on-going since Shelby Mayor Steve Schag first announced in February 2023 that the business would be coming to town.
Work at the site officially began in April 2024 with the demolition of the Skarl Motors building. Shelby Project Coordinator Joe Gies previously said work at the site remained constant, including active construction on Thanksgiving Day last year.
At the beginning of April, Kent Kick, vice president at Mickey’s Stores, told Richland Source they’re “super excited” to unveil and open the new Shelby location.
New Mickey’s to feature dinosaur theme
Jessica Gribben, economic development manager for Shelby and northern Richland County, said the new Mickey’s and Dunkin’ Donuts is “unlike any you’ve seen in this area.”
“It features a beautiful, soaring glass exterior and a bright, open interior,” Gribben said via email in her weekly newsletter. “Large fueling stations offer easy-in, easy-out access for both cars and trucks.”
Wagner said an added bonus will be the upcoming Mickey’s Dino-World Adventure—a one-of-a-kind immersive experience that will be installed inside the Shelby store later this year.
“This unique attraction will become a must-see destination and bring countless visitors to Shelby for years to come,” she said.
To celebrate, a limited edition Dino-World Passport will be offered to those attending the grand opening, Wagner said.
