MANSFIELD — Calling all high school sophomores and juniors (or anyone who knows high school sophomores and juniors) …

Do you love to write? Are you curious? Do you enjoy questioning authority figures or learning new things? Got skills in social media, photography or video?

Well, we’ve got just the opportunity for you.

This summer, we’re launching our inaugural Source Media Journalism Fellowship. We’ll be selecting students from Ashland County, Knox County and Richland County to participate in a week-long program from June 23 to 27.

This highly-competitive program will give you a chance to practice all the skills you need to be a journalist, from interviewing sources to pitching your work to news organizations and more.

“We would like to encourage all students interested in this project to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Larry Phillips, Source Media Properties‘ managing editor.

“Our staff is excited to share their experiences and foster that enthusiasm for our profession to budding journalists of tomorrow.”

How to apply

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, we encourage you to apply. You can do so by following this link.

The application asks for contact information, parental consent and one long-answer question. It also requires at least one reference and a writing sample. This application will be competitive — there are limited spots in this first class of fellows.

Interested students should submit their applications by 5 p.m. on May 23.

We’ll host fellows in our newsroom for the week, located in downtown Mansfield. Selected fellows must have transportation to get to and from the office.

Got questions? Feel free to reach out. We’ve got a great team stepping up to lead the fellowship, including Richland Source lead reporter Katie Ellington Serrao and Ashland Source lead reporter Dillon Carr.

You can reach Katie by emailing her at katie@richlandsource.com. Or, Dillon is also available to help with any questions, and can be reached at dillon@ashlandsource.com.
