MT. VERNON: Jeff Varner, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2025 after an extended illness. Jeff leaves behind a legacy of generosity and kindness that lives on in the hearts of those he loved.

Jeff was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on April 7, 1951 to parents Virgil Jefferson Varner and Emma Lucille Jeffers. He graduated from Parkersburg South High School before receiving training to become an electrician. He became a talented electrician, working for General Motors and PAE Electric for several decades. He was even able to teach electrical work at the Mansfield branch of the Ohio State University to promising students. While employed by PAE Electric, he spent two years living in Iraq working to rebuild the American Embassy. Jeff was diligent and industrious, traits which led him not only to success in his field but to share his skills with pupils and loved ones alike.

On April 20, 1984, Jeff married the love of his life, Myra Farley. On their first date at Red Lobster, Myra fell for Jeff’s genuine demeanor and kind eyes. The couple created a life together built on the cornerstones of love, friendship, and faith in God, all the while never failing to find humor and joy in the small moments they shared. Jeff doted endlessly on Myra, fixing her breakfast in bed and making her coffee almost daily. He wanted her to have everything she desired and to never experience a moment of uncertainty about his love for her. Their life was filled with a tremendous amount of ease and fun, remodeling homes and moving several times, traveling, and always laughing. When Jeff returned from Iraq, he took Myra on a ten-day trip to Italy and Jordan so that she could spend time overseas, as well. Jeff’s unwavering generosity and kindness was often expressed in the form of fixing things for others, from lightbulbs to offering to remodel bathrooms for those he loved. A man of sincere faith, Jeff attended the houses of worship for many congregations but was in his heart a devout Baptist. When he fell ill, he found comfort in his belief in the Savior, telling Myra, “I want to see the face of Jesus.” Though Jeff is in the embrace of Heaven now, the memory of his Christian heart and the legacy of his perpetual love for others lingers. Tenderhearted, Jeff never raised his voice to anyone, living to please his wife and share his ever-present smile with the world. Jeff’s uniquely beautiful spirit will always be remembered by his dear wife and beloved friends.

Jeff is survived by his dear wife Myra Varner; niece Michelle (Varner) and nephew Alan Scott Varner; and his dedicated and loving friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lucille Varner and brother Scott Varner.

In lieu of flowers, Jeff’s family invites friends to remember his generosity by making a donation in his memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Jeff’s family invites friends and loved ones to join them for calling hours on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 5-6pm with a service immediately following at Snyder Funeral Homes Lexington Avenue Chapel.
