MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Senior boys basketball team began postseason play with a roar on Thursday night.

The second-seeded Tygers overwhelmed No. 6-seed Norwalk 84-59 in the Division III sectional final game at Pete Henry Gym.

Senior Kyevi Roane topped a balanced Senior High offense with 18 points. Rashad Reed Jr. contributed 16, D’Vontae Johnson chipped in 12 and freshman Kaylen Brooks had 11.

Mansfield Senior took control from the opening tip, roaring to a 23-9 first-quarter lead and rolling to a 41-24 halftime bulge. The gap grew to 66-42 at the end of the third period.

Mason Gamble paced the Truckers with 20 points, while Jordan Parriott added 19.

Jahmere Pearson’s six assists spearheaded the Tygers’ fine offensive performance. Coach Marquis Sykes’ team had 15 assists, compared to just six turnovers.

Norwalk suffered 19 turnovers, and Mansfield Senior took advantage with 19 points off of them.

The Truckers finished the season 7-15.

The Tygers have won six straight and will advance to meet third-seeded Sandusky on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in Willard. The Blue Streaks beat Tiffin Columbian 71-61 in their tourney opener.

The Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division champions are 15-7. Mansfield Sr. beat Sandusky 84-77 on Dec. 7 in their only other matchup this season.
