Jerry Lee Matuch, 88, of Morrow County, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2025, following a short illness.

Born on July 22, 1936, in Lexington, Ohio, Jerry was the son of the late Martin and Winona (Berry) Matuch. On September 9, 1956, he married the love of his life, Helen Morrison, in Lexington, Ohio. Together, they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.

Jerry dedicated 29 years of his career to the Ohio Brass Company before he and Helen operated the Countryside Restaurant in Johnsville for a decade—where their famous “Works Sauce” recipe remains a well-guarded secret. Even after retiring, Jerry continued working part-time for NASDA for 20 years.

A devoted member of the Pines Christian Church, Jerry participated in the men’s Bible study and took great pride in cooking chicken for the annual barbecue. He also served proudly in the Ohio Air National Guard following high school and was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, often accompanied by his favorite Brittany dogs. His adventures took him salmon fishing in Alaska and pheasant hunting in South Dakota. A passionate traveler, Jerry, Helen, and their children explored all four corners of the United States, creating cherished memories on trips to Alaska, the Caribbean, the Grand Canyon, and whale watching off the New England coast.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; their children: Mike (Dianne) Matuch and sons Abraham and Riley; Melinda Matuch; Melissa (Dudley) Sulzener and sons Jacob (Stephanie) and Joshua; and Mark (Bethany) Matuch and daughters Kristen (Ben) and Logan (Josh). He is also survived by his sister, Betty (Jerry) Wakeland. Among Jerry’s greatest joys were his great-grandchildren: Brittany, Gavin, Karley, Benjamin, Kristina, Elijah, and one on the way.

A memorial service honoring Jerry’s life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 beginning promptly at 12 pm at The Pines Christian Church (6775 US-42, Mount Gilead, Ohio). Visitation and a time to share stories and celebrate the life of Jerry will follow the service until 4 p.m.

Jerry will be remembered for his love of family, sense of adventure, and unwavering kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
