MANSFIELD — Malabar Intermediate School will be closed Tuesday due to a water issue. Classes and extracurricular activities at the school are cancelled.

“Water is coming into the building near the boiler room,” Mansfield City Schools Supt. Stan Jefferson said Monday night. “We are addressing that issue right now.”

Classes and after-school activities will be in session as normal at all other buildings in the district on Tuesday, he said.

Jefferson said the school facility director and representatives from the City of Mandfield Codes and Permits Department were at Malabar on Monday night.

Jefferson said classes will resume once the water issue is addressed. He was unable to say if classes will resume on Wednesday, but said the district will notify staff and families sometime Tuesday.

The superintendent said social media rumors about fires and other safety issues in the building are false.

Malabar Intermediate is located at 205 W. Cook Road and serves students in third through sixth grades.
