Roger D. Buchanan, age 77 of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Mount Carmel East Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1947, in Portsmouth to the late Robert and Nora (Shelton) Buchanan, and on February 12, 1972, he married the love of his life, Sherry (Sokaski).

Roger worked many years as a truck driver, but as a man with an entrepreneurial spirit, he pursued many lines of work throughout his lifetime, including driving limos. He was exceptionally proud of his time spent serving his country as part of the United States Navy and helping his community as a volunteer firefighter, and he was also proud of his Scottish and English heritage. He enjoyed building train sets and woodworking, but above all else, he was a hard worker who always made sure his family was taken care of. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Sherry Buchanan; his children April Buchanan and Scott (Kayla) Buchanan; his grandchildren Myles, Owen, and Quentin Buchanan; his siblings Sondra Buchanan, Phil Buchanan, and Brenda Bise; and his longtime friend from the Navy, Thomas Kareckas, Sr.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Nora Buchanan.

Family and friends may gather to honor Roger’s memory on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Roger’s lifelong friend Pastor Denny Nezrick officiating. Burial will take place at Mansfield Memorial Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone who would like to make a memorial contribution plant a tree in his honor. Memorial trees can be ordered through the Werner-Gompf Funeral Services website.
