SHELBY — Lexington sent a chilling message to future foes on Saturday night. The Minutemen can be as dangerous from the perimeter as the paint.

Coach Scott Hamilton’s squad drilled 10-of-18 triples (56 percent) to subdue Shelby 73-53 in a non-conference boys basketball clash.

Junior point guard Seven Allen was the chief sniper, draining 4-of-6 treys and pouring in a game-high 26 points. Jakob Legron had three treys and 15 points, and Gavin Husty added two more from distance while scoring 10 points. Junior Joe Caudill contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Minutemen gained control early, racing to a 17-8 first-quarter advantage and a 39-19 halftime bulge. The Whippets closed within 56-43 through three periods, but Lex finished it with a 17-10 scoring margin in the final eight minutes.

Junior Brayden DeVito paced Shelby with 24 points. Landon Foltz chipped in 13 and Nic Eyster had 10.

The Minutemen (8-1 overall) have won four straight and return to Ohio Cardinal Conference action on Friday night at home against Ashland.

Shelby slips to 4-3, and will host Ontario on Thursday.
