MANSFIELD — Kyevi Roane does a little bit of everything for the Mansfield Senior boys basketball team.

On Saturday night, The Tygers’ 6-foot-1 point guard, shooting guard, small forward scored nine points, grabbed 10 rebounds, distributed three assists, and hit the game-winning basket with 17 seconds remaining.

Roane’s bucket broke a 44-44 tie, gave Senior High a 46-44 victory over Fremont Ross, and kept the Tygers undefeated with a 4-0 record.

It was a game Mansfield Senior never trailed. Yet the verdict went to the buzzer, hinging on a final defensive stand with the Little Giants thwarted to the finish.

The Tygers led 13-11 at the first-quarter stop and 25-22 at intermission. Senior High opened a 36-30 margin heading to the final eight minutes, and it remained tight throughout the fourth quarter.

Fremont’s Dontrell Heard deadlocked the game at 44-44 on two free throws with 52 seconds showing. That marked the closest the Little Giants had been since it was 2-2.

But Roane would not be denied with his clinching shot.

Freshman Kaylen Brooks topped the Tygers with 13 points, while Rashad Reed added 10 in the defensive struggle.

Heard’s 12 points represented the only double-figure scorer for Fremont Ross.

Both teams were ice cold from the field. Senior High made just 16-of-55 field goals (29 percent), while the Little Giants were 15-of-48 (31 percent). Ross enjoyed a 42-36 rebounding edge, but committed 15 turnovers compared to just eight for the Tygers.

Mansfield Senior will play at Ashland (3-1) on Tuesday.

Fremont Ross falls to 1-3 on the season, and will host Napoleon on Tuesday.
