COLUMBUS — A man and woman from Richland County have been arrested in connection to a Wednesday morning stabbing death in Columbus, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records.
Shavar A. Johnson, 23, of Mansfield, was charged with murder while Courtney M. Webb, 21, of Shelby, was charged with felony obstruction of justice, according to the online court records.
Both were arraigned in court on Thursday. Johnson’s bond was set at $1.5 million, and Webb’s at $500,000, according to a story in the Columbus Dispatch.
Both Johnson and Webb were being held in the James A. Karnes Correction Center in Columbus, according to court records.
Preliminary hearings for both are scheduled Dec. 20.
The case unfolded after Amareyon Daniels, 22, was found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds by Columbus police on Wednesday at around 7:30 a.m. in Weinland Park on North Grant Avenue., according to the Dispatch. Columbus fire department medics pronounced Daniels dead at 7:39 a.m.
Minutes later, police said Johnson arrived at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he had been driven by Webb, according to a story published on WBNS 10TV. Franklin County Municipal Court records said Johnson had a stab wound to his hand.
Webb allegedly told detectives Daniels approached her in an alley and tried to rob her at gunpoint. Webb continued to say that after she told Daniels she had nothing of value to take, Daniels said he was going to rape her. Webb said that as Daniels began to attack her, Johnson ran up and stabbed Daniels, according to the news reports.
However, police told WBNS 10TV that’s not what happened, based on video evidence. Officers obtained video from the scene which showed Webb sitting in a vehicle with Daniels when Johnson ran up to the vehicle, opened the door and attacked Daniels.
When officers confronted Webb with the new information, she changed her story and gave officers another version, according to published accounts. When officers brought up the inconsistencies of her second story, Webb requested a lawyer, 10TV said.
