Timothy Richard Dalton, 76, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 7, 2024 at Ohio Health Mansfield after a lengthy illness.
Timothy was born October 31, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio where at a later time moved to Mansfield, Ohio. Prior to his high school graduation from Mansfield St. Peter’s in 1966, at a younger age he very much enjoyed science and chemistry as most of his free time spent was with his chemistry sets at home with his friends from grade school. A few years later, his first job which began to teach him the skill of exceptional customer service was a paperboy at the age of 10 years old. Following that, he went on work at a local snack bar as a teenager, which added to what he loved doing…going above and beyond for his customers.
After Graduating from St. Peter’s in 1966, he was accepted to the Mansfield Business College where he earned his Associate’s degree in Business Management with a concentration in restaurant management followed by spending a few summers in New York at Cornell completing additional culinary courses. One of his favorite soups he loved to prepare for his family was his signature chili and French onion. As the years progressed, he went on to manage and own various restaurants including Ponderosa, Western Sizzlin, Arthur Treacher’s as well as owning a restaurant and bar in Ashland, Ohio called the Dug Out.
After working in the hospitality industry for a number of years, he wanted to continue his journey of customer service but in a different capacity, which led him into the insurance industry where he went into sales and financial planning for Prudential, Western Southern, John Hancock and Bankers Life and Casualty. After a successful tenure with the above companies, he decided to open up his own company called Dalton Insurance where he brokered for numerous agencies. As the years progressed, he worked for the “Experience Works” program for seniors at the Harmony House’s shelter for men in Mansfield. During his tenure of his positions, he always had a very positive work ethic despite a long history of health issues but would never give up on completing the task no matter how difficult his own issues were. As a believer in hard work no matter the task, he always instilled this mindset into his children for their futures.
Outside of his work, he very much enjoyed spending time with his family such as taking trips in the car listening to his favorite music from the 1950’s and 1960’s, going out to eat, watching television and movies together. He very much enjoyed being involved in and watching his children’s activities such as swim team, soccer, baseball and martial arts. He had an admiration for his pets while growing up but most recently, his cats “Buddy and Gizmo” and dog “Mickie” who he adored quite well while being cared for by his caregiver and daughter Francesca.
He is survived by his son Jonathon L. (wife Kelly) Dalton of Valparaiso, Indiana, his daughter Francesca N. Dalton of Mansfield, Ohio, his friend and mother of his children Terri L. Hull of Laporte, Indiana, grandchildren whom he dearly loved very much as well as other family, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Francis Dalton and mother Frances Irene Armstrong Dalton, his birth parents and his brother Michael J. Dalton whom he all loved very dearly as well as his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles whom he had many special times with that left him with lifelong loving memories.
