BELLVILLE: Ida Mae (Walker) Ocheltree, age 83, passed away on November 28, 2024.
Born in Bellville, Ohio on April 21, 1941 to Russell and Beatrice (Cairns) Walker, Ida Mae was one of ten siblings. She remained a lifelong resident of Bellville, and in April of 1958, she married Fred J. Ocheltree. The couple had two children, Stephen and Jeffrey.

Ida Mae was a talented crafter and enjoyed creating quilts and sewing and embroidering pieces for all her loved ones. She was a devoted homemaker, always caring for her family. She adored nurturing her beloved flower garden when not tending to her children and husband; as she helped her children blossom, so did she meticulously care for her double knockout red roses. She enjoyed cake decorating and used her plentiful creative energy to design beautiful cakes for weddings, birthdays, and graduations. When not creating exquisite pieces in thread or frosting, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. A member of Pleasant Grove Community Church, Ida Mae was ever-dedicated to her church family and was a devoted follower of Christ. As a truly family-oriented woman, and as a fixture of the Bellville community, Ida Mae never missed the daily gathering of the Walker siblings at the local McDonald’s.

Ida Mae is survived by her sons, Stephen (Kimberly) Ocheltree and Jeffrey Ocheltree; grandchildren Tony Ocheltree, Amberly (Chris) New, Brittany Smiley, and Katie (Josh) Gettman; great-grandchildren Stephen (Reagan) Ocheltree, Maggie Ocheltree, Hunter Ocheltree, Callie New, Liam Ocheltree, Addy New, Brayden Ruckman, Rylan Gettman, and Jaxon Gettman; siblings Dana Robinson, Maurine Walters, and William “Bill” Walker; and many more friends and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by husband Fred J. Ocheltree; parents Russell and Beatrice Walker; granddaughter Jenny Ocheltree; siblings Charles “Jack” Walker, Norma Jean Wolfgang, Mary Alice Snavely, Lois Ann Little Gaddis, Rodney “Top” Walker, and Ronald “Butch” Walker.

In lieu of flowers, Ida Mae’s family invites loved ones to make contributions in her memory to Pleasant Grove Community Church, Southern Care Hospice, or the Bellville-Jefferson Township Fire and Rescue.

Her family invite friends and loved ones to gather at Snyder Funeral Homes Bellville-Butler Chapel from 4 to 7pm for calling hours on Tuesday, December 3. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11am with burial at Oak Grove Memorial Park to follow. Pastor Mark Dettmer will officiate.

Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to oversee Ida Mae’s arrangements and to care for her family during this time.
