MANSFIELD – The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center was proud to host the Fall Academic Challenge Tournament in person on Nov. 21 and 22, following the fall league.
Coaches and students alike were appreciative, and the energy level was high as students participated.
“The tournament ran very smoothly, despite the slippery start with the unexpected snow, and we congratulate all teams along with our winners,” organizers stated.
Tournament Day 1 results
Varsity bracket A teams: Ashland A, Madison A. Loudonville A, Mansfield Christian, Hillsdale and Crestview.
Varsity bracket B teams: Ashland B, Madison B, Loudonville B, Mt. Vernon, Mapleton and Mansfield.
For varsity, the top team for each bracket (Ashland A for bracket A and Madison B for bracket B) faced off in the final:
Ashland A took the Championship with a score of 43 to Madison B’s 22. Ashland A was composed of Logan Frazer, Jaden Backensto, Scarlett Wilhelm, Micah Mauriocourt and Erica Cao.
The members of Madison B’s team were Cameron Porter, Bradlee Kotterman, Sam Myers, Bryce Tudor and Ian Parker.
JV bracket A teams: Loudonville A, Mapleton A, Ashland A, Crestview A, Mt. Vernon and Mansfield.
JV bracket B teams: Loudonville B, Mapleton B, Ashland B, Crestview B, Mansfield Christian and Madison.
The top teams for each JV bracket (Mount Vernon for bracket A and Crestview B for bracket B) faced off in the final: Mount Vernon took the Championship with a score of 35 to Crestview B’s 20.
The JV Mount Vernon team was coached by Rob Fetters and was composed of Liam Fernandes, Jonathan Green, Aidan Jones, Nathan Hofferberth and Evan Guillory.
Crestview B’s JV team was made up of Allison Morr, Alex Cutlip, Anna Rall, Keegan Cornell and Brandon Bergosh.
Tournament Day 2 results
Varsity bracket A teams: Tiffin A, Ontario, Highland, Colonel Crawford and Clear Fork.
Varsity bracket B teams: Tiffin B, Lexington, Mt. Gilead, Northmor and Plymouth-Shiloh.
The top team for each bracket (Tiffin A for bracket A and Northmor for bracket B) faced off in the final.
Tiffin A took the Fall Championship with a score of 42 to Northmor’s 22.
Tiffin A’s team members were Christian Keefe, Kenton Fell, Ethan Schmidt, Deacon Albright and Parker Stroub. Northmor was made up of Dane Creswell, Austin Radel, Parker Brown, Kyran Hile and Kate Lehman.
JV bracket A: Northmor A, Ontario A, Crawford A, Highland A, Tiffin and Mansfield St. Peter’s.
JV bracket B: Northmor B, Ontario B, Crawford B, Highland B, Lexington and Mt. Gilead.
On the Junior varsity side, it was battle of Highland as Highland A took on Highland B for bragging rights at the school. Highland A came out victorious 29-26.
Highland A was composed of Zane Granger, Handrick Karya, Bailey Moreland, Drennyn Mooty, Josh Van Horne and Alexa Van Horne.
Highland B was composed of Mehraneh Matin, Malin Fichtner, Kieran Taylor, Mason Johnson, Hayden Brooks and Eneas Peren Chux.
League results
The High School Academic Challenge Fall League was run virtually on Oct. 21, Oct. 28 and Nov. 11.
For Varsity, we had enough districts participating that we could divide into two brackets. Congratulations to our winners for the various brackets.
Varsity Division A teams: Ashland, Madison, Highland, Crestview, Ontario, Mt. Gilead, Mansfield and Hillsdale.
Varsity Division B teams: Lexington, Mansfield Christian, St. Peter’s, Colonel Crawford, Loudonville, Northmor, Clear Fork
and Plymouth-Shiloh.
Ashland won Division A while Lexington won Division B.
Ashland was made up of Logan Frazer, Jaden Backensto, Jacob Slade, Micah Mauriocourt, Scarlett Wilhelm, Hayden Hitchcock and Jordyn Backensto.
Lexington was composed of Captain Alex T., Ben W., Ari C., Addie S. and Natalie L.
The junior varsity Academic Challenge league only competed in one bracket.
The teams were Madison A & B, Ashland A & B, Highland A & B, Mansfield, Northmor A & B, Lexington, Mansfield Christian, Ontario, Crestview, Colonel Crawford A & B and Loudonville.
Madison A took first place, and Ashland B took second place. Madison A’s team was composed of Chris Lucas, Piper Donahue, Kaylee Stone, Hannah Fultz and Ian Parker.
Ashland B’s team was Samantha Mauriocourt, Abigail Taylor, Laney Zimmerman, Kira Zimmerman, Kaley Stoffer, Boaz Lemaster, Heer Amin and Olivia Swartz.
