MANSFIELD –Residents from Richland and surrounding counties participated in this year’s North Central Ohio Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising nearly $100,000 to support the care, support, and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, sincerely thanks the many dedicated Walk participants, volunteers and sponsors who made the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s a tremendous success,” said Brenda Nelson, chairperson.
“The funds raised will help fuel disease research while also providing critical care and support to individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia.”
Barbara’s Buddies was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising more than $10,000. Cheryl Benway and her father, Jim Prinz, from Ashland, have walked for over 10 years in honor of her mother.

The team has raised a remarkable $82,000 since they began fundraising years ago. Cheryl and her father are passionate advocates, sharing their journey with friends and family. Cheryl has attended Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. speaking on behalf of families dealing with the disease.
This year’s Walk was held at the Richland Carrousel Park with 360 participants attending. Presenting sponsors of the event were Altercare Bucyrus, Avita Health System and Jack Stewart Eldercare Law.
“We are so appreciative of the support in the community to help to raise funds and awareness,” said Erica Parnisari, Walk Manager. “We are just short of our goal of $107,000 and still collecting donations.
