MONROE TWP. — Voters in Monroe Township will decide on a 0.15 mills property tax renewal that keeps Lucas-Monroe Township Memorial Park thriving for locals and visitors alike.

The five-year renewal appearing on the Nov. 5 ballot would serve the operation, maintenance and improvement of the Lucas-Monroe Park. The property tax would commence in 2025 and would first be due in 2026.

Township Trustee Ed Sauder said in an email the tax generates approximately $13,000 annually.

Sauder was uncertain of the levy’s original passing date, though he confirmed its purpose for maintaining the township’s sole park.

Three township trustees currently oversee park upkeep. The funds are allocated for essential maintenance tasks, including mowing, the upkeep of pavilions, basketball and tennis courts, bathrooms, and parking lots.

Future improvements planned for the park are taken at the recommendation of the park trustees, Sauder said.

He emphasized the importance of voter support, noting that renewal of the levy ensures the park remains available for the community and visitors to enjoy its scenic beauty.
