MANSFIELD — “It’s gotta be spooky, it’s gotta be scary, but it’s also gotta be fun.”
Wise words from Mansfield’s own DJ DroJack to describe the finale of Newsroom After Hours happening this Friday night.
The Richland Source basement at 40 W. 4th St. will be transformed into a Halloween hip-hop house party, free to all with music, food, beer, and costumes galore.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with DJ DroJack spinning before and between live sets from Newsroom After Hours veterans and newcomers alike:
- 8 p.m. — A.P. The Kidd
- 9 p.m. — Devy Kay
- 10 p.m. — Thuh Koz
Guests 21+ can enjoy free beer from Phoenix Brewing Co., and everyone can grab Halloween-themed bites from Doc’s Deli.
Visuals and lights by Potent Studios will bring the vibe to life, adding a spooky backdrop to this end-of-year, Newsroom After-Hours bash.
Costumes encouraged, BYOB welcomed, and surprises guaranteed.

Describe yourself in one sentence:
The heart of it all.
One thing the people should know:
This is what grinding gets you. If I could put it all in one word, it would be passion. This is something I love to do, it literally chose me so I just went with it.
One unmissable song from your set:
Thriller. It’s a classic, it’s an all-around song by one of the greatest artists of any time (Michael Jackson), and it fits the vibe of Halloween. If you do not play Thriller on Halloween or any time in October, then you’re not in the Halloween spirit. You’re not part of the spooky clan.
The vibe you bring to the function:
It’s gotta be spooky, it’s gotta be scary, but it’s also gotta be fun. My thing is I want everybody to have fun, but I also want people to be scared. It’s not a Halloween party if no one gets scared.

Describe yourself in one sentence:
My energy tends to vary, so I would say sensational or energetic. I tend to put a lot of emotion into my music. I’m very relatable.
One thing the people should know:
I’m a very family-oriented person with everything that I do. The main reason why I take my career as serious as I do is because I feel like it’s more than just me that I’m doing this for. I have a little girl about to be 2, my oldest will be 6 in April, and besides the love I get from the fans they’re why I drive so hard to complete what I do.
One unmissable song from your set:
I’ve noticed the one that captures people’s eye is a song called “Ugh” because it’s possibly the theatrical adlibs I did in the background or the lyricality. I really dialed in to give them exactly what they expect from me. I made that song as the driving force to show people where I started from, because it’s a tribute to my older brother who got me into music.
The vibe you bring to the function:
I try to bring a lot of positive energy. I just want to bring a positive, loving energy. I tend to get told a lot that you never know what to expect with me.

Describe yourself in one sentence:
I’m very in-depth and, I don’t know the best word for it but my music is very lyrical. Very on beat and lyrical.
One thing the people should know:
That I’m 100% myself all the time. Whatever moment I’m in, whatever emotion I’m feeling, I’m definitely a guy who wears his emotions on his face. I never shy away from trying to be authentic or original. All my production is myself from top to bottom. It’s all from my heart and mind.
One unmissable song from your set:
My latest personal single “Mothership” I’m very proud of. The past year I’ve been working with a producer in India; the internet is cool for my generation to build relationships across the world. That song is based on a hip-hop show at The Mothership … I made an alien-sounding beat, started writing to it and I felt like it fit the song name.
The vibe you bring to the function:
More energetic. I’ve been discussing this with my inner circle, I feel like I’m a chill person but my music is hype and aggressive, and that’s where I drive all my energy and creativity. The vibe Friday will be hype and energetic but in the future will be slower and more intimate.

Describe yourselves in one sentence:
We’re a little bit of everything. Our music, you’re gonna get a melting pot, a little bit of everything – R&B, mellow, energetic, slowed down, hip hop. Thuh Koz is a mixture, a variety of different energies.
One thing the people should know:
That we have something for everybody. Don’t stop at one song you didn’t like, because we might have a rock song on Thursday but you look at our catalog on Friday and you’ll find an electronic dance song. There is something for you from Thuh Koz.
One unmissable song from your set:
Anything off of our recently released album, “Crêate & Cônquer: Relationship Goals”
The vibe you bring to the function:
Our vibe is very bold, in-your-face, confident, vibey, melodic. We’re gonna get a little R&B but definitely well-rounded and versatile.
