MANSFIELD — Americans will elect a new president in November. You probably read about that somewhere else.

But, Richland County voters also have more local decisions to make this election in terms of leaders. Our election coverage is designed to help the county’s 80,670 registered voters make informed decisions.

As part of its 2024 election coverage, Richland Source will host a Candidate Conversation night at The Source in downtown Mansfield.

This year’s event will be Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at our offices at 40 W. 4th St. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public, though seating is limited.

The evening will also be livestreamed on the Richland Source Facebook and YouTube pages.

All candidates in four local races have been invited to participate into what has become a regular event — Ohio Senate 22nd District, Ohio House 76th District, Richland County Board of Commissioners and Richland County Clerk of Courts.

Here is roughly the schedule for the night:

7 p.m. — Richland County Clerk of Courts — Chris Adams (D) vs. Denise Ruhl (R)

7:30 p.m. — Richland County Board of Commissioners — Darrell Banks (R) vs. Rev. Aaron Williams (D)

8 p.m. — Ohio House 76th District — Emily Adams (D) vs. Timothy Grady (write-in) vs. Marilyn John (R)

8:30 p.m. — Ohio Senate 22nd District — Mark Romanchuk (R) vs. Kathy Salem (D).

These are not debates. They are designed as conversations, moderated by Richland Source City Editor Carl Hunnell. There are no timers, bells or lights. All candidates are asked to respect one another, as well as the audience, in the forum provided by the event.

These will be informal and civil conversations about the county and the state and the future of both.

All of the candidates have been invited to participate.

Live questions will not be taken from the audience during the event. If you have a question you would like us to consider, please email us at Carl.Hunnell@RichlandSource.com
