MANSFIELD — Six Mansfield firefighters continued their climb up the career ladder Friday.
During a promotion ceremony in council chambers, 30 N. Diamond St., Bradley Burwell, Charles Swank and Todd Toussant were promoted to captain.
Donald Adams, Michael Blair and Christopher Ransom climbed the ranks to lieutenant.
Mansfield Fire Department Chief Dan Crow said Friday morning’s promotions are a testament to the six firefighters’ “dedication, self-motivation and drive.”
“I know you firefighters have already taken major leaderships roles in our department … taking this next step into a formal position is really going to open your eyes and give you more opportunities to inspire and train and lead our crews,” Crow said.
“For our captains, being able to manage our programs and have some real responsibility in the decision making of the department is a big step for you as well.”

‘We expect great things from you’
Safety Service Director Keith Porch said progressing from the role of firefighter into a supervisory position is the “hardest and most exciting” jump in someone’s career.
“That’s when you now take the responsibility of having folks underneath you and supervising them in their career,” he said.
“We look forward to big things for you guys to be able to train the future of the division.”
Porch administered the oaths Friday, surrounded by family and friends of the six firefighters.
As he addressed the trio being promoted to captain, the safety service director reinforced higher ranks mean increased responsibility.

“We expect great things from you in guiding the department in positive ways and to have efficient service for the citizens of Mansfield,” Porch said.
Mansfield Fire Dept. continues ‘transition’
Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry said Friday’s six promotions signify a “time of transition” in the city’s fire department.
Crow was sworn in Dec. 1, 2023 as the new chief for the Mansfield Fire Department. Capt. Robert Garn was promoted to assistant chief in April 2024.
Porch was elevated to safety service director in late February 2024.
“I have full confidence in the department and what they are doing to protect our citizens,” she said. “Thanks to all the families for sharing them (firefighters) with us, for all that you give up, so that they can do their job.”
“I think it’s awesome to see so many young kids (at Friday’s ceremony), just kind of a great showing of life here in the future of the department.”
Additionally, Mansfield Law Director Rollie Harper and Mansfield City councilmembers David Falquette, Cheryl Meier and Deborah Mount each thanked and congratulated all six firefighters.
