Mansfield: James “Jim” L. Miller passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. He was 77.
He was born on May 15, 1947 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Forrest E. and Elisabeth J. (Olds) Miller. Being raised in the community Jim was a part of one of the very first graduating classes from Malabar High School in 1965. After graduating he went on to proudly serve his country in Vietnam with the United States Army. After his time in the military Jim went on to work at Mansfield Aircraft in the drafting and orthographic projection department until the company closed.
At a mutual friend’s Halloween party he happened to meet the love of his life, Janet McLaughlin. Shortly after meeting the couple started dating and were married on April 15, 1966, together they have shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Jim was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post #26, and enjoyed the camaraderie he found with his fellow service members. In his spare time he loved to build model cars, particularly classic cars from the 1930’s and 40’s. He was extremely talented when it came to the model car projects, spending countless hours meticulously pouring over every detail to get it just perfect. Jim’s other passion was reading, owning close to 70 novels by Clive Cussler, it was safe to say he loved a good adventure story. Above all else though, he loved his family and would do anything necessary to care for them. Jim was an honest and honorable man, who loved his country and a great sense of humor- he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet Miller, son Chad (Angel) Miller of Ashland, brother-in-law Glen McLaughlin of Mansfield, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents Jim is preceded in death by his grandparents, sister-in-law Elizabeth McLaughlin, and sister and brother-in-law Doris and Charlie Farina.
The Miller family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 5-7 pm at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Diamond Hills Baptist Church at 11 am. Burial to follow at Shauck Cemetery. Pastor Chris Thomas will speak.
