Madison Township trustees approved a $214,963 bid for a Sites Road culvert project at a special meeting Aug. 12.

MADISON TOWNSHIP — Madison Township trustees are one step closer to new drainage culverts for Sites Road.

The trustees called a special meeting on Aug. 12 to open bids for the project.

“We’re putting in two culverts for drainage, and repaving Sites Road,” said trustee chair Tom Craft. “It’s almost a dirt path right now.”

The work would include replacing storm sewers at Sites and Marianna, as well as resurfacing areas of both roads. On Sites Road, that includes the area north of Chew Road through the dead end. On Marianna Drive, it includes north of Chew Road through the dead end.

Albatross Management, located in Holmes County, bid $214,963 on the project. Craft said the county engineer’s estimate in the work was about $215,000.

Trustees also previously signed a chip-and-seal contract from the Shelly Company for $131,044 on seven stretches of township roads. About four miles of the following roads will be sealed by Sept. 30.

  • Trimble Road from the end of the curb at Ohio 39 north to Poth Road
  • Poth Road north to the Mansfield city limits
  • Hanna Road from Trimble Road east to the city limits
  • Hahn Road from Trimble Road east to the city limits
  • Ridge Road from State Route 430 south to Michael Drive
  • Walker Avenue from State Route 430 south to Bonnie Drive
  • Hickory Lane from State Route 39 east to Ford Road

In previous road paving news, Madison trustees approved a $310K contract with Sarver Paving in Ashland at their June 3 meeting for resurfacing about four miles of roads.

Sarver Paving will also resurface 1,460 feet of Brace Avenue with 1.5 inches of asphalt. Trustee Dan Fletcher said the Brace project could be paid for with the funds Springfield Township will pay Madison as part of the joint agreement on resurfacing Home Road.
