Zane Allen Zimmerman passed away in Green Valley Arizona on July 16th 2024 at the age of 94.
His parents, Dwight and Lucille, welcomed Zane to their family on January 18, 1930 in Shelby Ohio. He attended Shelby Schools, and graduated from Shelby High School in 1947. During his younger years he worked various jobs in Shelby such as Shelby Gum Company and the Shelby Cycle. Zane also had many motorcycles and Cushman motor scooters over the years in which he enjoyed adventures on them. After high school Zane enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 and was one of the finest photographers in the military at that time. He retired as a highly recognized Senior Master Sergeant from the Ohio Air National Guard Mansfield Audio Visual Department after 37 years in 1985. Zane also owned Zim’s Studio in Shelby from 1958 to 1975 and worked alongside of his wife Patricia photographing over 2000 weddings in north central Ohio.
In retirement, Zane and his wife she traveled to all 50 states, 49 of them in their RV. He enjoyed the scenic beauty of the country, and the company of many new friends as well as activities offered by the communities visited. Zane was able to describe where he had visited and what route he had taken on every trip. Anyone who challenged him in a game of pool experienced his competitive side as he was a master in many tournaments over the decades. He was also an avid table tennis player all the way into his late 80’s.He was active and lived independently to the end. As someone who enjoyed traveling, he visited 27 different countries. He was always at peace wherever the wheels stopped rolling. In 2005 they made their permanent home in Green Valley, Arizona and spent summers in Show Low, Arizona.
Zane was a devout Christian and was also highly interested in the Mormon faith. He was a past member of Evangelical Brethren Church in Shelby and the Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Zimmerman and his mother Lucille Cashman and father Dwight Zimmerman. Surviving is their son Scott (Janita) Zimmerman of Norman OK, three grandsons; Jason Zimmerman of Mansfield, OH, Joshua (Nicole) Zimmerman of Winter Park, FL and Matthew Zimmerman of Columbus, OH and half-sister Judy Meade (Curtis) of Milwaukie, OR.
Much loved and sadly missed, he shall always be with us. A graveside memorial service will be held at a future date at the Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Zane’s name at Sahuarita First Assembly of God in Sahuarita Arizona.
