SHELBY — As summer has arrived multiple programs are in full swing at Shelby Help Line Ministries.
From now until Christmas the agency will be busy bees. Summer lunches have already begun, with the highest day of serving totaling 145 children.
“We look for this number to continue to increase,” said Jolene M. Arms, of Shelby Help Line Ministries. “For each week of serving our head cooks are issued a check for $1,000 for food and packaging supplies.
“We are so thankful to the churches for continuing to take on this ministry from week to week and for the many helping hands that join them.”
Bicycle Days are fast approaching and the organization is beginning to prepare for its annual Homemade Pie Auction.
“It is crazy to believe that this will be our 20th year of collecting and selling pies,” Arms said. “We appreciate all the churches, organizations and individuals who take the time to bake some of the most wonderful pies for our auction.
“I am always amazed at the support we receive from our generous donors as well. The pie auction is probably one of my favorite events.”
If you would like to bake a pie or two, or even come down after the parade to join the auction the agency would appreciate your support. This is currently the only fundraiser for the ministry.
“Believe it or not, we have already started preparing for back-to-school,” Arms said. “I know what you’re thinking, school has only been out for a few weeks and we’re already talking about returning. Crazy!
“We will be accepting applications for children July 1 through July 31.”
Any child from Shelby or Tiro is welcome to receive supplies, a backpack, and a shoe voucher. Last year Shelby Help Line Ministries assisted 211 children.
If you would like to donate supplies, contact our office. All items must be new.
“We certainly could not support our community without your contributions,” Arms said.
Donations can be made online through the website, Venmo app, or by cash or check.
“Thank you for your continued generosity,” Arms said. “With your partnership we hope to continue to do so.”
Shelby Help Line Ministries has faithfully served the community for more than 45 years.
