MANSFIELD — There’s a new opportunity to enjoy live music in Mansfield this summer.
3rd Cup Tea started “The Back Lot Series” in June and will host local musicians Karyn Wade, Ramjet and Ryan Kessler on Friday, July 5.
Braxton Daniels III, owner of 3rd Cup Tea, said he created the series to support local musicians and offer something to do downtown in the evenings.
“When I first took over the shop, all the businesses were still doing First Friday Shop Hop, and that fizzled out a bit post-COVID,” he said.
“I’m trying to get those vibes back again of businesses being open later once a month, and everyone knows, ‘Oh, there’s something going on downtown, let’s get out and walk around.’”
For each first Friday of the summer months, including September if the weather cooperates, Daniels plans to invite local musicians to the parking lot behind 3rd Cup, Relax, It’s Just Coffee and Two Cousins Pizza.
“Music has always been able to bring people together, and that’s what I want to do,” Daniels said.
“Downtown Mansfield Inc, Salon Vivace, Two Cousins and Relax have been really supportive and I want to get more businesses on board to bring back the Shop Hop vibes.”
Chico’s Brother, Jordon Baker and Grace McClenathan opened the inaugural Back Lot series on June 7, 2024.
“They were all really great and partnering with some of the local music venues like The Mothership has been really helpful,” Daniels said.
“These are people making music in your own backyard. My goal is to give them a platform and help people discover new artists.”
Daniels said he wants to host poets in addition to musicians at future Back Lot events.
“I’m just trying to do something new and give people an event that they can bring their kids too, hang out and support some local talent. Like Final Fridays, just on a smaller scale.”
Friday’s Back Lot Series will be from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring Karyn Wade, Ramjet and Ryan Kessler. 3rd Cup will also stay open later to sell teas and snacks to those attending.
Daniels said some seating is provided but attendees are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs. The next Back Lot series is scheduled for Aug. 2.
