MANSFIELD — Link Briggs Jr. always knew he wanted to open his own business.
“I always wanted to work for myself and I fell in love with barbering when I went to barber school,” the 26-year-old said.
Briggs earned his barber license in 2019 and has since been cutting hair in Mansfield and Columbus, where he currently lives.
Briggs celebrated the new location of his barbershop, LinkedKutz, at 683 S. Main St. with family members and community leaders on Friday.
He used to work out of a space on Lexington Avenue, but said he has more space at the Mansfield location.
“I kind of wanted to make the barbershop an expression of my personality, so I told Demetrius Howell what I was thinking for a mural,” he said. “He drew up all my favorite players and teams on this wall.
“You can definitely expect a lot of sports talk here. The TV’s tuned to ESPN and I’ve got Buckeyes posters all over the walls.”
Richland County commissioner Cliff Mears thanked Briggs for investing in his hometown.
“I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for entrepreneurs because they’re the people that take the risks and generally get the greatest rewards,” Mears said. “This is a great location and a great opportunity.”
Briggs Jr. is a 2016 Mansfield Senior graduate. He’s the son of Mansfield firefighter Link Briggs Sr, who earned Mansfield’s Firefighter of the Year in 2018.
Michelle Briggs, Link’s mother, said she is impressed with her son’s hard work.
“I’m just so proud of him and his success,” she said. “He’s worked really hard and I appreciate everyone supporting him.”
LinkedKutz to offer haircuts, facials
Briggs will take appointments at the Mansfield location from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
He is currently the only barber at the Mansfield shop, but said he plans to hire estheticians and additional barbers if needed.
“You can definitely expect a great haircut when you come in here,” he said. “We also offer hot towel service and black mask facials.”
