LEXINGTON: Micah Raymond Galuzny, 12, of Lexington Ohio, fell into his Savior’s arms on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, after bravely battling pediatric cancer.
Micah was born on October 5, 2011 in Westlake, Ohio to Brian and Christine (Yakir) Galuzny. He is the second oldest of the six Galuzny children. Micah is known to his family as “Bubba” or “Micah Mouse.” He was a member of Resurrection Parish where he attended with his family, after moving to Lexington shortly after he was born. He served as an altar boy and enjoyed attending various children activities at the church. He received all of the Sacraments there: Baptism, Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and was more recently Confirmed in the comfort of his home along with his brother Brendan. He was devoted to the Divine Mercy Chaplet and chose Saint Sebastian as his Confirmation Saint, his spiritual guide.
Micah was a sixth grade homeschooler of Queen of Heaven Academy, who never really wanted to do school work, but was incredibly bright. He enjoyed spending time with his big brother Brendan and best friend Austin the most, building forts outside, riding bikes, and playing video games. Micah was always up for an adventure. Micah loved to play sports; baseball, football, basketball, and tennis. He participated in Upwards basketball, played baseball for the Lexington Softball and Baseball Association, Lexington Flag football, and more recently discovered how fun tennis is at the Lakewood Racquet Club. Micah really loved baseball and was a member of the 2019-2020 Titans travel ball team where he wore #12. From 2020 until his battle ended, he was a member of Central Ohio Prime (now known as Showcase Baseball Midwest) where he wore #24. His favorite position to play was always pitcher. He enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland Guardians and was excited to have the opportunity to pitch a ceremonial first pitch just last spring. He also was a huge Buckeye fan and Browns fan. Micah took piano lessons, enjoyed hunting and target practice, and was a member of Cub Scout Pack and Troop 152 of Lexington from 2018-2023.
In the fall of 2022, a week after his 11th birthday, Micah was diagnosed with Stage 4 Alevolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. Micah began grueling treatment at Nationwide Children’s hospital under the caring team led by Dr. Nicholas Yeager. He received radiation treatments at the Ohio State University James Center under the care of Dr. Sujith Baliga. Micah immediately became known as “Mighty Micah” and received so much love and support from his family, friends, community, and even world. Micah fought against his cancer with a tenacity that made him beloved to all he encountered. He remained faithful to the Lord and did not let his cancer define him.
Micah is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Deacon Michael D. Yakir, Christine’s baby sister Nichole Yakir, and a sibling baby Galuzny.
He is survived by his parents, Brian and Christine Galuzny and five siblings, Brendan, Evangeline, Jozef, Milo, and Andrzej; his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Mary Galuzny, maternal grandmother, Susan Yakir; aunts, uncles and cousins Douglas (Bibianne) Galuzny, their children Clare, Ana, and Angelina; Micheline (Joshua) Ricker, their children Josie, Lilah, and Harper; and Patrick (Kelsey) Yakir, their children Auria, Natalee, Kaylee, Christopher and Mireya Reyes.
Friends may call Friday, April 26, 2024 from 3-9 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a vigil prayer service will be held at 8:40 pm.
