MANSFIELD — There were four other people inside the house at 67 E. Chestnut St. when a 16-year-old Mansfield youth was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon, according to police Capt. Randy Carver.

“We are talking to everyone else who was in the house at the time,” Carver said Thursday afternoon. “The investigation is fluid and ongoing.”

He said guns were recovered by police inside the house after the shooting, which occurred at 2:02 p.m.

No one had been charged in the shooting death as of Thursday afternoon and Carver said no one was in custody.

The body of the teenager was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy, which is scheduled for Friday morning.

Police have declined to say how many times the teenager was shot.

Officers responded to the house after receiving a 911 call that a shooting had occurred, according to a press release Wednesday from Carver.

“Upon arrival, Mansfield police officers located a 16-year-old victim inside the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound(s),” Carver said.

The victim was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital by the Mansfield Fire Department.

He was pronounced dead at 2:48 p.m. at the hospital, according to Bob Ball, the chief investigator for the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call Det. Ronnie Swisher at 419-755-9432.

It was the second Mansfield shooting death in five days, coming on the heels of the Saturday morning shooting death of David Gibson, 25, who was identified by Ball.

Officers responded to 423 Spring St. at approximately 1:49 a.m. after a report of a shooting was called in, according to the MPD.

No arrests have been made stemming from that shooting death.
