MANSFIELD — Police found a Mansfield resident dead early Saturday morning while responding to a shooting incident on Spring Street.

The deceased is David Gibson, 25, according to Bob Ball, chief investigator for the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Officers responded to 423 Spring St. at approximately 1:49 a.m. after a report of a shooting was called in, according to a news release from the department.

Upon arrival, police found Gibson already deceased after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

Gibson’s body will be taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy on Monday, Ball said.

Detectives from the Mansfield Police Department’s major crimes unit are investigating the case, but police say details are limited so far and a suspect has not been identified.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Det. Rick Clapp at 419-755-9470.
