LOUDONVILLE — She led her team to the Final Four and rewrote Loudonville’s record book along the way.

It’s no wonder Corri Vermilya is Ohio’s Division IV Player of the Year.

A 5-foot-9 senior guard, Vermilya led the Redbirds to the state tournament for just the second time in program history and first time since 1992. Loudonville (26-3) fell to Waterford 41-32 in the semifinals earlier this month at the University of Dayton.

The Ashland University-bound Vermilya averaged 26.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 6.4 steals per game. She broke Loudonville’s single-season and career records for points, rebounds and steals.

Unofficially, Vermilya’s ranks 10th on the state’s career scoring list with 2,407 points. She ranks 13th with 1,255 rebounds and seventh with 553 steals.

Vermilya was the state’s Division III Player of the Year last year before Loudonville dropped to Division IV this year.

Danville’s Ella Proper was a third-team All-Ohio selection in Division IV. The 5-foot-6 senior averaged 14.3 points per game.

Mansfield Christian’s Kyleah Jones and Loudonville’s Mya Vermilya — Corri’s younger sister —  were special-mention selections in Division IV. A 6-foot senior, Jones averaged 12.4 points per game. The younger Vermilya averaged 13.5 points a game.

Honorable-mention picks included Loudonville’s Sophia Spangler, Plymouth’s Jaylin Branham and Buckeye Central’s Nevaeh Metzger. Spangler averaged 9.6 points a game, while Branham averaged 12 points a game and Metzger averaged 9.9 points a game.

Newark Catholic’s Rob Smith was selected the Coach of the Year.

In Division III, Clear Fork’s Annika Labaki and Melanie Blubaugh were Special-Mention picks. They were joined by Colonel Crawford’s Mira Holt, Wynford’s Caroline Sheldon, Bucyrus’ Brook Dennison and Centerburg’s Kayla Larimore.

Labaki averaged 10.5 points a game, while Blubaugh was good for 9.5 points a night. Holt averaged 11.1 points a game and Sheldon averaged 12.4 points a game . Dennison averaged 12.6 points a game and Larimore averaged 19.2 points a game.

Honorable-mention selections in Division III included Wynford’s Brooke Frombaugh (10 ppg); Colonel Crawford’s Allison Weithman (7.0 ppg), Bucyrus’ Addison Kemery (10.3 ppg) and Fredericktown’s Cally Carpenter (18.7 ppg).
