PLYMOUTH — Everyone is talking about the Total Solar Eclipse that will happen on Monday, April 8.
Residents of the area are well-acquainted with the precautions being taken to accommodate the thousands of tourists who are expected to flood Huron County which sits in the midst of the Zone of Totality.
Not everyone is acquainted with the incredible science behind an eclipse; however; and that is the subject of the program that the Plymouth Area Museum will host on Monday, March 18 at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Retired NASA Senior Research Scientist and Space Systems Engineer, Dr. James R. Scott, will provide a fascinating discussion on the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse at the museum, located at 7 East Main Street in Plymouth.
Dr. Scott, a local resident, spent more than 28 years at NASA, during which time he conducted leading edge research in several fields, including aeroacoustics; spacecraft trajectory analysis; computational fluid dynamics and computational unsteady aerodynamics.
Scott’s research was conducted at NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland where he worked on systems engineering for the Space Launch System – the largest rocket ever launched that successfully completed the Artemis I test flight and launch to and from the moon between Nov. 16 to Dec. 11, 2022.
During the 45-minute program, Dr. Scott’s slide show will illustrate the scientific phenomena that come together to create the once-in-a lifetime celestial event we will witness on April 8.
The program is free and the public is invited to attend.
