ONTARIO — The Ohio State University at Mansfield is hosting a presentation, “Motivating Your Student: Strategies for Parents and Educators” on Monday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. at The Cove Coffee Shop (325 Shelby-Ontario Rd., Ontario).
This event is free and open to the public. Drinks will be provided.
Led by Dr. Eric Anderman, Professor of Educational Psychology and Interim Dean of Ohio State Mansfield, the program will dispel myths and highlight research-based strategies to positively impact a middle or high school-aged student’s motivation.
“A student’s motivation to learn is related to their achievement and grades, their attitudes toward school and homework, and to their future career choices,” Anderman said.
“Although many of us think about student motivation as an unchangeable characteristic of students, there actually are many strategies that parents and educators can use to positively impact student motivation.”
Anderman has been conducting research on academic motivation for the past 25 years.
A former high school and middle school teacher, he has published over 100 articles and chapters on student motivation, and he has co-authored and co-edited seven books on student motivation.
He is a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association.
