In loving memory of Scott Allen Laughlin, also known as M. Fred Laughlin, who peacefully passed away on November 23, 2023, after bravely facing months of illness. Born on March 16th, 1936, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to Kermit and Gladys (Light) Laughlin, his journey led him to Vermillion, Ohio, in 1950. He proudly graduated from Vermillion High School in 1955 before serving as a jet engine mechanic in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. During his time in the Air Force, he earned a degree in aircraft and engine electronics from the University of Maryland.

Upon completing military service, he relocated to Mansfield, where he initially worked as a Manager with Servex Electronics. Later, he transitioned to a fulfilling role at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Seeking a new challenge, he ventured into the insurance business, eventually establishing his own independent agency, from which he later retired.

He is survived by his cherished children, lovingly referred to as “The Brady Bunch”: Annette Welker (David Swope), Tobey (Ron) Roberts, Brett (Dawn) Cole, Shanna (Matt) Young, and Andra (Rob) Padgett. Also left to cherish his memory are his 13 grandchildren: Rylee and Cameron Welker, Kyle, and Alex (Taylor) Spargo, Tristan, Brady, Seth, and Kenyon Cole, Kennedy, Cole, and Channing Young, Mason, and Gavin Padgett. Additionally, he is blessed with two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Anniston Spargo.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Todd Allen Laughlin, as well as his parents and sisters, Louise Laughlin and Jean Gara, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. Instead, his children and grandchildren will gather privately to celebrate and honor the life he lived.
