Janet Ruth (Spohn) Shafer, age 83, of Vero Beach and formerly of Bellville, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 following a brief battle with cancer.
She was born August 24, 1940 to Marjorie (Welch) Spohn and Chester Spohn and graduated from Bellville High School in 1958.
Jan married Richard Shafer on April 4, 1961 and together they shared 62 years of marriage. Seldom seen without one another, Jan and Dick even dressed in coordinated outfits. Their bond was unbreakable.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Bellville. She loved bowling, golf and playing cards. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed countless hours watching football on TV. Jan and Dick spent many years wintering in Vero Beach, and made it their permanent home two years ago. Jan was also a member of the Bellville American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, two children, multiple grandchildren, and many friends and dedicated neighbors.
A private service will be held at a later date, and Jan will be interred in Bellville Cemetery.
