HILLSDALE — Hillsdale Middle School eighth-grade students were recently awarded sportsmanship honors for their conduct as student leaders during the 2022-23 school year.
Knox Lewis and Jillian Cowger received the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s prestigious Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.
Jillian is the daughter of Robert and Lynette Cowger. She is an honor student who is active in softball, travel softball and volleyball, 4H, and her church’s youth group.
Knox is the son of Joe and Heather Lewis. He is an honor student who is active in baseball, basketball, football, travel baseball, and fishing.
Kael Lewis and Clair Brightbill received the National Federation of High School’s National Award of Excellence.
Clair is the daughter of Rick and Jamie Brightbill. She competes in basketball.
Kael is the son of Joe and Heather Lewis. He is active in baseball, basketball, football, travel baseball, and fishing.
The Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award, named for two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to a male and a female student who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity in the school and community.
The Award of Excellence is presented to students who have exhibited qualities that embody good citizenship, good moral character, good sporting behavior, and are positive role models for others.
