The original portion of the Marvin Memorial Library was a house built in 1867 by Dr. William Riley Bricker, a local physician. It now houses the children’s department.
-
Daniel Marvin added a portico and columns to the front of the original library wing for a grander entrance in 1904.

A mural depicting the history of the Marvin Memorial Library. Daniel Marvin, who purchased the original building and donated it to the city, stands on the porch between the two pillars. His great niece and first Marvin Memorial librarian Carrie Marvin sits on the lawn, reading to a group of children. A Shelby bicycle leans against one wall, while a stray cat lounges on the front step. He’s based on a real cat that often sits on the stoop.
“We’ve had several stray cats over the years that like to try to sneak in but haven’t made it inside yet.”
