ONTARIO — Duana Patton, CEO of the Area Agency on Aging, said all of her staff and board members were grateful for voters on Tuesday night.

The 1.5-mill property tax levy for senior citizen services received 8,994 votes for it, compared to 3,382 against, meaning 73% supported this measure among 12,376 counted votes from the final unofficial results via the Richland County Board of Elections.

“Everyone has their reason for voting for or against and I respect all of that we’re just grateful for the outcome,” Patton said.

Area Agency staff visited multiple council meetings leading up to the renewal of the 5-year levy.

“I really want to thank everyone who let us into their circles to talk about the value of this levy,” Patton said. “We’re excited to utilize these dollars for seniors and caregivers in Richland County.”

Levy collection will cost $53 a year on each $100,000 of property value. It is expected to generate $3,888,048 annually.
