FREDERICKTOWN — A new high school principal will arrive at Fredericktown Local Schools this August, thanks to the board of education’s approval at its special meeting Tuesday.
Ryan Shoemaker’s first day is Aug. 1, with his contract running for three years.
Shoemaker, a Fredericktown native and a graduate of the class of 2003, “brings a wealth of experience in education, leadership, and community involvement to the role,” according to a district press release detailing the hire.
Shoemaker was previously a biology teacher at Mount Vernon High School for the past 13 years, as well as serving as PBIS Coordinator on the Building Leadership Team and working with families to determine best practices to guide students’ academic needs post COVID-19, according to the release.
Shoemaker also serves as the chairman of the public works committee and the steering committee for Fredericktown Village Council.
The application for the high school position ended April 10, Supt. Gary Chapman said. The interview process had some longevity, with several one-on-one interviews conducted.
“I am honored to serve this position (as the principal of Fredericktown High School),” Shoemaker said at the board meeting. “I’m super excited to be back home.”
Shoemaker’s passion and knowledge of education and being from the community made him the most qualified candidate to fill the important position, Chapman said.
