MOHICAN TOWNSHIP – A Wooster resident was killed and a Mansfield man was evaluated at the scene for possible minor injuries after a Wednesday afternoon crash in Ashland County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Gale A Stauffer, 57, of Wooster, was pronounced deceased at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center, the Patrol stated.

The incident took place on U.S. Route 30 at County Road 2175 in Mohican Township at approximately 2:25 p.m., the Patrol reported.

According to a press release, Stauffer was driving a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander westbound on U.S. Route 30, attempting to make a left turn onto southbound County Road 2175 when the vehicle failed to yield and was struck by a 2017 Kenworth Semi Tractor Trailer that was eastbound on U.S. Route 30.

The driver of the Kenworth, William H. Brandon Diontey Miller, 40, of Mansfield, was evaluated at the scene for possible minor injuries.

U.S. Route 30 was partially closed for approximately 90 minutes.

Other agencies assisting at the crash scene were: Hayesville Fire and EMS and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
