Fourth Street front lawn in 1896
Then & Now: Fourth and Weldon 1896

MANSFIELD — Historical Hide & Seek in downtown Mansfield often works like this:

We find a picture taken by a photographer in the 1800s who was capturing a building that seemed interesting enough at the time to document.

We take the photo to the site intending to capture the same scene today.

We discover that the interesting building had been scrapped 50 years ago.

What a pleasure and what a wonderful surprise to discover in 2015 that the place worth photographing in 1896 is still standing and thriving.

The 1896 residence of Attorney I.S. Donnell is in use by a counseling service called Samaritan House Ministries.

The Donnell’s home was photographed for The County of Richland, Ohio: an Imperial Atlas and Art Folio, 1896.
