MANSFIELD — Mansfield Senior quarterback Duke Reese threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the Tygers to a convincing 42-9 romp over North Canton Hoover in Friday night’s home opener at Arlin Field.
Reese hit 10-of-15 passes for 174 yards and added 23 yards on the ground to fuel Senior High’s 35-point, second-half outburst.
The Vikings (1-1) struck first in the second quarter on Luke Griguolo’s 1-yard TD plunge. But Reese hit Jamarr Davis for a 47-yard TD strike and Sean Putt’s PAT gave the Tygers a 7-6 halftime edge.
Mansfield Senior took control in the third quarter. Reese scored on a 1-yard sneak to make it 14-6, then connected with Nate Dismuke for a 42-yard touchdown bomb to make it 21-6.
The Vikings’ Paul Koskovich split the uprights on a 25-yard field goal to slice the gap to 21-9 heading to the final period. But Hoover wouldn’t score again.
Jamir Petty’s 3-yard touchdown plunge pushed the margin to 28-9, then Keontez Bradley got loose for a spectacular 95-yard punt return. Petty’s 5-yard TD blast finished it.
Zyion Brown topped the Tygers with 68 yards rushing, while Dismuke led the way with four catches for 71 yards.
Senior High got the best of the statistical battle. Coach Chioke Bradley’s squad had the advantage in total yards (318-196), rushing yards (144-130), passing yards (174-66), and first downs (13-9).
Luke Roach posted 78 yards rushing for the Vikings.
