Merle Luzella Darby

LEXINGTON: Merle Luzella Darby, 88, of Lexington, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 20, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born July 1, 1933 in Big Stick, WV and graduated from Sophia High School in 1951.

On November 8, 1952 she married Clyde M. Darby and together they made their home in Mansfield in 1955, raising four daughters.

Merle was the perfect example of a wife and giving mother. She found no contest in the kitchen as a wonderful cook and baker. Merle loved preparing large meals for her family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She earned the name “Cookie Lady” with a freezer full of homemade cookies ready for any and all occasions.

Merle was a member of North Woodbury Alliance Church and was a faithful student of the Word, enjoying small group and various Bible studies. She loved reading, especially religious books and stories about pioneer life.

She spent countless hours in her flower gardens doting on her many flowers, including her favorite dahlias, and was also a talented seamstress.

Merle will be remembered for her humble servant’s heart, who found herself blessed to support her daughters and family with love, encouragement and praise.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law Dena and Robert Bosler of Shiloh, Marianne and Randy Harriger of Galion, Paula and Roger Jones of Mansfield and Betsy and Matt Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Joshua Jamieson, Chad (Cassandra) Jamieson, Ben (Dara) Harriger, Andy (Katie) Harriger, and Greg Fox; great grandchildren Caleb Jamieson, Braylayn Haudenschild, Audrey and Alicia VanHorn, Livia, Paul, Timothy, Lincoln, Landry and Luke Harriger; and a brother.
