MADISON TOWNSHIP – The Madison Local Schools board of education has reached a new contract agreement with its educators union.

The board voted unanimously to approve the contract with the Madison Local Education Association (MLEA) at its meeting Wednesday.

The new contract has a retroactive start date of Aug. 1, 2021 and is in effect through July 24, 2024.

MLEA spokesperson Josh Boliantz said he was pleased that the negotiation process is over and a fair contract is in place. Union members voted to approve the terms of the agreement Tuesday night.

“It passed with a strong majority, which we are very pleased with,” he said. “We’re very happy that both sides accepted and felt it was fair.”

Boliantz said the new contract continues to promote job security for Madison teachers and maintains current healthcare costs and benefits with a modest increase in premiums.

The contract also includes a 2-percent salary increase and a 1-percent stipend each year.

“We’re very excited to come to an agreement with the MLEA,” Supt. Rob Peterson said. “I want to compliment everyone involved in those negotiations on both sides.

“I know it was a lengthy process and sometimes difficult, but I think we came to an agreement that everyone’s satisfied with.”
