CLEVELAND — Bad weather could turn into severe weather today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

The bureau reports that showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage this afternoon and evening with a slight risk for severe thunderstorms in Northeast Ohio mainly between 4 and 8 p.m.

Damaging winds perhaps reaching as high as 60 mph will be the primary concern but a tornado or two is also possible, the weather service stated. Thunderstorms will also produce heavy rainfall. The heaviest two-day rainfall totals of 4-5″ are expected west of a line from Sandusky to Findlay.

The greatest flooding concerns are for urban areas along with small streams and creeks. Residents in the region are advised to clear leaves from streets and drainage systems to reduce flooding.

Marine conditions will continue to deteriorate, particularly across the western basin of Lake Erie. Gale force winds along with waves of 6-9 feet are expected. This will also result in hazardous beach conditions along the southern shore of Lake Erie.
