MANSFIELD — The most popular newsroom-based concert series in north central Ohio is back in business.
After a brief hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Newsroom After Hours returns in full force for the 2021 season. Doors will reopen for our very first Friday concert at 40 W. Fourth St. in Mansfield on July 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Our lineup for the 2021 series of Newsroom After Hours, Vol. 5 includes the following local musicians:
Friday, July 16: Sarah Goff, Losers’ Club, I Told You
Friday, August 20: Clint Knight, Mr Matthew, Ricky Mitchell
Friday, September 17: Divebomb, Bonesaw
Friday, October 15: Sadhour, VaunDoom, Thuh Kôz
Mechanics Bank has once again come aboard to support local music as our presenting sponsor. Doc’s Deli and Phoenix Brewing Company help us provide free food and beer to attendees. And Studio 45 Multimedia and 88.9 WRDL – Ashland collaborate with us to promote the shows. We could not host this series without support from these local partners.
Most importantly, the talented bands and musicians of Mansfield and surrounding communities have been eager and willing to take our stage.
Kicking off our inaugural show at 7 p.m. on July 16 is Sarah Goff. Her songs and soulful voice speak to the heart of real-life struggles in our human condition and how Jesus loves us.
Starting at 7:45 p.m. is Losers’ Club, the four-part, Galion-based alternative rock band that, by their own admission, likes to play music and drink Arizona green tea.
Closing out the show at 8:30 p.m. is I Told You, the music duo of Adam Holman of Ontario and Andre Robinson of Columbus. They focus their talents on creating music that blurs genres and entertains the masses, and are currently trying to make 365 original songs in 2021.
If you didn’t know, the idea for the After Hours project came from Dillon Carr, who recently returned to the Source from Pittsburgh. Carr was a fan of NPR’s Tiny Desk, a series of video performances recorded at the desk of All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen.
In 2014, Carr approached Richland Source president Jay Allred wanting to create a local adaptation of the concert series that would inspire readers to appreciate Richland County’s thriving music scene. Our goal has always been to support and discover original music and connect artists with new fans and people.
The rest, as they say, is history: We’ve been throwing house-party-style events in the newsroom with live music, food and beer ever since.
Recordings of each After Hours show will be available courtesy of local recording artist Aaron Nicolas, with the purpose of exposing the area’s original music scene to Richland Source and its affiliates’ wider audiences.
Come support local music and enjoy our FREE shows, plus FREE beer (21+) courtesy of Phoenix Brewing Company and FREE food courtesy of Doc’s Deli. We’ll save you a seat.
